RUSSIAN EXPORT TRADE

PREFERENCE TO BRITAIN The Moscow Narodny Bank, London, reports that the orders placed in Great Britain by Soviet trading organisations in February of the current year amounted to £1,121,282, as compared with £902,863 for the same month last year. The total value of the orders placed in the first two months was £1,827,690, as compared with £1,318,649 for the corresponding period in 1934, an increase of 38.6 per cent. In February of this year 53 vessels were chartered on the London market by the Anglo-Soviet Shipping Company, Limited, of which number 42 were British. The total tonnage chartered in February was 306,420 tons, of which 231,036 were British, and the total sum involved is estimated at £197,818, of which £141,818 will go to British owners. In February, 1934, only 25 vessels were chartered of 188.650 tons, and involving a sum of £129,286 on the London market.
