MENACE OF WAR IN ABYSSINIA FOREIGN HELP FOR DUSKY PEOPLE United Press Association—By Electric Tel egraph—Copyrlgh t (Received May 8, 7 p.m.) ROME, May 8. Dr Lessona, under-secretary for the Colonies, explaining to the Chamber of Deputies the mobilisation measures referred to the barbarous conditions in Abyssinia. He declared that “it is not right that such a slave owning country should rule other tribes.” The officials say that Abyssinia is entirely out of hand. The Government is unable to control the people’s actions, and instance various incidents, including the Italian soldier killed at Cozula. SINISTER STORY FROM LONDON GERMANY AND JAPAN BACKING ABYSSINIA United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 8, 7 pm.) LONDON, May 8. The Rome correspondent , of “The Times” says: It is officially stated, on the testimony of foreign observers that Germany is supplying Abyssinia with aeroplanes and German and Japanese military instructors are being engaged in increasing numbers. MOBILISATION ORDERED
MEASURES TO SAFEGUARD COLONIES UDlted Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright ROME, May 7. The Premier of Italy, Signor Mussolini, has ordered mobilisation of additional troops. The official announcement says: "Owing to large supplies of arms sent to Addis Ababa, the capital of Abyssinia, by several European factories, and Abyssinian mobilisation, measures must be taken to guarantee the security of our East African colonies.” Italy, therefore, has mobilised one army and two militia divisions. The order adds many thousands of troops to those already on a war footing. The Under-Secretary for War in March stated that within a month there would be 600,000 men with the colours.
