INDIA’S TRIBUTE TO KING
MARKED CONTRAST NOTED REJOICINGS IGNORED IN FREE STATE United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 8, 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, May 8. “The Sun-Herald” says: The Free State and India, which have been frequently instanced as parallel political cases, provide an illuminating comparison in connection with the Jubilee.
Monday’s issue of Mr de Valera’s paper “The Irish Press” refers to the celebrations in a half column hidden in a page featuring a turf cutting contest and road accidents. On the contrary, the Indian extremist newspaper lavishly described the celebrations and praised the King. Even the pro-Congress journal declared that the Indians are as jubileeminded as the Britons.
