FUTURE OF THE ANTARCTIC
HEALTH RESORT THEORY DISCREDITED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 8, 7.0 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 7. Dr. Poulter, of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition, on arriving, had discredited the theory that the Antarctic would make an excellent health resort, because germs cannot live at a low temperature. He said: “Our geologists examined many pieces of snow, and practically all of them found bacteria of some sort or other.”
Dr. Poulter, who is departing for Washington to be present at RearAdmiral Byrd’s reception ceremonies, declared himself well satisfied wih the scientific results of the expedition.
