WARDROBE FACILITIES

The present-day vogue for long dresses, which, far from dying out, seems to be increasing with the popularity of trains for evening wear, reveals the inadequacy of the usual type of wardrobe to be met with in most Houses. Furniture has not kept pace with the trend of fashion and so we find that the majority of wardrobes are much too short to house the modern dress comfortably without creasing it at the hem. The ideal wardrobe or cupboard should take the long dress full length. If it does not, the next best thing is to have a hanger with a lower bar, like a crossbow, and to hang the dress over it from the waist. Hangers, indeed, can do much towards improving the facilities of the wardrobe. Slippery evening frocks which fall off the hanger at the slightest touch are very irritating, and the ideal shoulder for these is the one turned up at each end, while silk or flimsy frocks of any description will stay on a velvet covered hanger much more safely than on a plain wooden one. The hanger with two little bars which, pinched together, nip the skirt top and let it hang properly is also a useful acquisition. It can be used for trousers also.
