PLAY AT BOURNEMOUTH United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 1. The Bournemouth hard-court tennis championships were continued to-day. The Australian Davis Cup tennis players have arrived at Bournemouth. The only persons to welcome them at the station were the English Lawn Tennis Association officials, and E. D. Andrews, of the New Zealand team. Andrews told the Australian Press Association that A. C. Stedman and C. E. Malfroy will play in the singles against Australia. The doubles pair had not been chosen. Andrews has recovered from a sprained ankle. The New Zealand team is being coached in London. The Australians will go to Eastbourne on May 4 to practise for the Davis Cup tie. Results:— Men’s Singles Third Round: H. Farquharson (South Africa) beat H. G. N. Lee, 10-8, 6-4, 6-1. D. D. Prenn (Germany) beat Sharpe 7-5, 6-2, 6-1. F. J. Perry beat Peters, 7-5, 6-3, 9-7. H. W. Austin beat L. Avory, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2. Men’s Doubles First Round: H. Farquharson and V.. G. Kirby (South Africa) beat A. Sharpe and L. Tuckey, 4-6, 9-7, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3. F. J. Perry and Butler beat W. Henderson and Lysaght, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Women’s Singles Third Round: Mrs F. Whittingstall beat Senorita Lizana (Chile), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Miss K. Stammers beat Mrs H. C. Hopman (Australia), 6-4, 6-3. Women’s Doubles Mrs Pittman and Miss Yorke beat Mrs Hopman (Australia) and Miss Ford, 6-4, 6-2. Mixed Doubles Second Round: D. D. Prenn and Miss E. M. Dearman beat Peters and Mrs Peters, 7-5, 6-4.
