PAREORA
SOCIAL GATHERINGS Mrs Hoskins presided over a large attendance of members of the Pareora Women’s Institute and friends of Miss Mary Macphail, who was the guest of honour at a social afternoon given in honour of her approaching marriage. The afternoon was spent in games and competitions, which were won by Mrs H. Hoskins and Miss Lorna Coote During the afternoon solos were sung by Mrs T. Guthrie. In making the presentation, Mrs Hoskins paid a tribute to Miss Macphail’s capabilities and wished her every success in the future. The hostesses were Mrs Vincent and Misses C. and S. Smallridge. The same evening members of the Football, Basketball and Tennis Clubs entertained Miss Macphail and Mr R. Patterson in honour of their marriage. The evening was spent in games and dancing, music being provided by Miss Coote, Miss Macphail, Mrs Weenink, Miss J. Munro, Mr Munro and Mr B. Wallace. Enjoyable solos were sung by Mr H. HdSkins. On behalf of the clubs represented, Messrs Hoskins and Coote spoke in high terms of the guests of honour, who had been very keen and active members of the clubs, and made each a presentation.
