WAIMATE BOROUGH AFFAIRS
To the Editor of “ The Timaru Herald ” Sir,—Now that the borough elections in Waimate are over, and the names of the new Borough Council and the names of those who nominated them have been announced. I must say that our people take very little interest in whom they trust with the spending of the money drawn from the rates. I have puzzled my bjains to come to a conclusion whether it is a compliment to our Mayor that we have placed him in the position of dictator, or is it that the better thinking and less argumentative portion of our people say to themselves: “Give him a rope and he will find the end himself.” On looking over the names of those who represent us on the Borough Council I notice that five are nominated by Mr Dash. That gives him an absolute majority of supporters. I do say without any fear that when the mayor of a city or town has to go looking for candidates to offer their services that it is a most unhealthy sign of municipal dry rot.— I am, etc., CARELESS RATEPAYER. Waimate, April 30.
