QUARANTINE REGULATIONS IN GREAT BRITAIN

In the past, because of certain quarantine regulations in Great Britain, it has been impossible to ship pedigreed cattle direct from Scotland to Australia, it having been necessary to send them to an English port, usually London, for the purpose. Apart from the undesirability of the additional travel and handling, this arrangement increased the cost of the stock to Australian buyers very considerably. In consultation with Australian buyers, the owners of the Blue Funnel line have for some time past been in communication with the British authorities. At last the regulations have been amended to permit cattle to be shipped direct from Glasgow to Australia. The first shipments under the new arrangement were made on the Blue Funnel motor-vessel Orestas, which sailed from Glasgow on November 24. and it is expected that further shipments will be made by vessels leaving the same port on April 20 and May 18 next.
