JUDGE’S SURPRISE IN NORTHERN TERRITORY United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright ADELAIDE, February 7. When the criminal sessions of the first Supreme Court of the Northern Territory opened at Alice Springs, a few members of the jury arrived in Court without coats. Mr Justice Wells immediately ordered them to leave the Court and obtain their coats. It was then found that some of the jury men had not possessed coats for several years. The dignity of the Court was upheld, however, for these men succeeded in borrowing clothing from acquaintances. Thus arrayed they returned to do their duty. ( One juryman pleaded that he was not punctual because he was the town’s iceman. The Judge fined him £3.
