Mr F. McKay (Melbourne) is staying at the Dominion. Mr W. H. Shears (London) is staying at the Empire. Mr F. S. Grayling, a member of the New Plymouth Borough Council, who is paying a short visit to Timaru, is a guest at the Grosvenor. Messrs E. Bevan, A. Romerel (Christchurch), A. L. Norwood, A. P. Norwood (Alexandra) and G. T. Sage (Dunedin) are staying at the Dominion. A ballot of the Dunedin Branch of the Labour Party selected the Rev. E. P. Cox, sitting Mayor, as the Labour candidate for that office. Full tickets were also nominated for membership of the Council and other local bodies. Messrs A. D. Healy, F. Sage (Dunedin), H. P. Griffin, L. H. Nuland (Wellington), R. Dossor (Palmerston North), R. Carrick, C. N. Sargenson, J. E. Scott (Christchurch), K. Bassett (Sumner) and V. W. Russell (Ashburton) are registered at the Grosvenor.

Mr J. C. Fishenden. a vice-president of the Royal Life Saving Society and an ex-chairman of the Society (London Headquarters) is on an official visit to Timaru and is staying at the Grosvenor. He is accompanied by Mr G. E. Billson, president of the New Zealand Council of the Society.

Messrs H. Gray (Auckland), A. D. Bruce, R. Carrick, R. Dossor, K. P. Nottingham, T. L. Barraclough, W. P. Anderson, P. D. Hunter (Christchurch), A. C. Paterson, O. Woods. G. W. North (Dunedin), J. Blair, J. B, Lea (Wellington), I. Faigan (Miller’s Flat) and S. Hill (Carterton) are staying at the Empire. Captain G. F. Yere, Wellington, the Government’s Inspector under the Animal Protection and Game Act, has received advice of his election as a Fellow of the Zoological Society, London, in recognition of his outstanding work as a naturalist, and latterly in combating the deer menace. He was formerly chief ranger and hatcheries manager at Lake Taupo and conservator of fish and game at Rotorua.
