THE SESSION
LEGISLATIVE PROGRAMME By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON. February 6. An assurance that the Government would be ready with its programme for the remainder of the Session when Parliament reassembled on Wednesday next was given by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, to-day. He said he could not phophecy how long the Session would last as the Government was prepared to give reasonable opportunities for representations on the legislation which was being brought forward. Mr Forbes said that the Government did not feel disposed to give facilities for further consideration of the Gaming Amendment Bill, the Alsation Dog Bill or the Religious Instruction in Public Schools Enabling Bill. When the Session adjourned it was stated that questions of major policy only would be dealt with when Parliament resumed. In addition to Bills for the establishment of the National Mortgage Corporation and the rehabilitation of farmers’ finances, the Legislative programme also included a Bill giving satisfactory effect to several recommendations of the Native Affairs Commission, and a Bill altering the constitution and powers of the Broadcasting Board.
There are grounds for believing that the personnel of the Board will be increased to seven in order to give opportunities for appointing persons with experience in educational culture questions. The Bill may also contain provisions for widening the Board’s scope in broadcasting controversial talks.
