ORARI
The Orari Women’s Institute met last Thursday. Mrs Macdonald presided over a large attendance of members and visiting members to whom a hearty welcome was extended. Letters congratulating the Orari choir on winning the Hodgekin Silver Cup were received from Gapes Valley, Kimbell and Pleasant Point. Bouquets of spring flowers were presented to Miss Spencer, and the vicepresident Mrs W. Hughes in recognition of her useful and good work for the Institute. Miss Spencer gave a talk on travels which was much enjoyed. Afternoon tea was served, after which a play reading was given, those taking part being Mrs Unwin, Mrs Rooke, Miss E. Williams and Mrs and Miss V. Gerard. Mrs S. Unwin gave a report on the half-yearly meeting. An invalid chair, the joint gift of all members was handed over to the president for delivery to an invalid member as a Christmas gift. Competitions resulted: Pikelets: R. Killoh 1, L. Priddle 2, Mrs Cone 3. Tartlets: K. Muff 1, R. Killoh 2, L. Cone 3. Best flower: K. Muff 1, Mrs Black 2, Mrs Muff 3. The various stalls, which did good business were in charge of the following: Cake and apron, Mrs W. Smith. Returned soldiers work, Mrs Wade. Sales table, Mrs Black and Mrs Cone. The hostesses were Mesdames Johnson, Killoh, Misses R. and M. Killoh and M. Hawkins.
