ILLEGAL RECEIPTS BY POWER COMMISSIONERS SENSATIONAL CASE IN CANADA United press Association—By Electric Telegrapn—Copyright (Received October 17, 7.50 p.m.) TORONTO, October 16. Mr T. Stewart Lyon, chairman of the Ontario Hydro-Electric Power Commission, said to-night that the Commissioners had adopted a resolution that an action be entered against the Rt. Hon. Arthur Meighan and Mr T. A. Maguire, former Commissioners, and two former officials for the return of money "illegally diverted from the funds of the Commission.” The text of documents found in the Commission’s files, Mr Lyon said, revealed that the former Commission hired detectives to “get something on the Liberal Party of Ontario.” The expenses of the detective operations and fees, he said, totalled 4300 dollars. Action for the recovery of the money, Mr Lyon said, would be against the chief engineer, Mr Fred A. Gaby, and the hydro solicitor, Mr Isaac B. Lucas, in addition to the Rt. Hon. Arthur Meighan and Mr T. A. Maguire.
