TIMARU FIRE BOARD
QUARTERLY MEETING The quarterly meeting of the Timaru Fire Board was held yesterday. Present—Messrs Wm. C. Raymond (chairman), J. A. Davis, C. S. Young, and J. Hole. Superintendent’s Report Superintendent P. Campbell reported that since last meeting the Brigade had received 15 alarms of fire as follows: Six chimney fires, two gorse and rubbish fires, two dwellings, a heating room at park, a church fire, a bakehouse, a fish shop, a washhouse, and the Central Relief Depot. The members also attended six practices and one meeting with an average attendance of 19 members. There were no very serious fires during the quarter. The most serious occurred on August 16, when the Brigade received a call to the Catholic Church in Craigie Avenue. On the arrival of the Brigade, a room in the rear portion of the Church was well alight, but they were successfully in confining the fire to' that part of the building. The new fire engine has been equipped with the necessary accessories and should be ready for commission this week. The report was adopted. The secretary (Mr H. H. Fraser) said that the couplings for the new engine had arrived and were now in use. It was stated that the new engine would shortly be in commission.
