AUSTRALIAN TEAM IN ENGLAND

INTEREST IN CHOICE OF NEXT TEST TEAM United Press Association—Bp Electric Telegraph—copyright LONDON. July 25. Woodful losing the toss for the ninth successive time, Australia took the field against Durham, the first minor match of the tour. The Durham batsmen made a sorry showing against Fleet-wood-Smith, who was helped by a dampish pitch which was reacting to strong sunshine. The innings lasted 2t hours. Fleetwood-Smith always had the batsmen completely at sea with his vicious spin. He took five for eight after lunch and seven for 21 in all. Teh thousand saw Australia open Brown was out in the first over. Then, in a dashing left-handed partnership, Bromley and Darling added 98 in 80 minutes before Darling was easily caught. Bromley seemed certain to secure a century but when trying for a big hit he was out. In a chanceless, brilliant innings of 125 minutes, he hit one six and 11 fours. Kippax showed excellent form after his illness. RESUMPTION OF MATCH. AUSTRALIA IN SCORING MOOD. Beneath the heading “Flay Larwood, 1 D. R. Jardine, writing in the • Evening Standard,” suggests an eleven, including Larwood, W. Voce and W. E. Bowes following H. Sutcliffe. C. F. Walters, W. R. Hammond, E. Hendren, M. Leyland, R. E. S. Wyatt, L. E. G. Ames, and H, Verity in batting order. "With such an eleven one might be pardoned for thinking there would be nothing to fear in the fifth Test. I unhesitatingly state that the English teams so far selected against Australia never had a chance of winning any match played throughout on an easy wicket.”
