SOUTH CANTERBURY. The main line of interest in the South Canterbury grain, seed and produce markets during the week has been partridge peas. There has been a good inquiry from overseas, but it is difficult to procure suitable export quality. A few good lines of milling wheat are coming on to the market, and these are being accepted by the Wheat Purchase Board. There is a good demand for fowl wheat at 3/- a bushel on trucks. A. and B. Garton oats are both inquired for. A’s are worth 1/10 a bushel on trucks, and B’s 1/8. Dark heavy Duns are bringing 2/2, and Algerians 1/9. The partridge peas market shows considerable activity so far as No. l’s are concerned, yesterday's price being 4/4 a bushel on trucks, sacks extra. It is understood that fair quantities will be shipped to the Continent during the week. The chaff market is quiet, the quotation being £2 15s a ton on trucks, sacks extra. The potato market is inclined to weaken, the present quotation being £2 12s 6d to £2 15s a ton on trucks, according to stations. It appears that the North Island is at present oversupplied. All seeds remain firm, at the following prices: Western Wolths, good farmers’ dressed lines 3/6 a bushel on trucks, ryegrass 3/- to 3/3 according to quality, cowgrass 9d per lb, and white clover 1/- per lb.
