Two miners, Claude Bater, aged 32, and Stanley Gregory, aged 22, who were working in an old shaft at Myrtleford, were killed when the shaft collapsed and buried them beneath 12 tons of rubble and earth. The tragedy occurred on Monday afternoon and they were discovered missing on Tuesday morning. The bodies were recovered late last night.
