Messrs R. Bremner, C. Mathias (Dunedin), C. W. Aldred (Auckland), N. McCausland, T. R. Taylor and A. Parker (Christchurch), are registered at the Empire. Messrs S. W. Hickmott (Sumner), J. H. Howden (Dunedin), T. M. Hawes (Auckland), C. B. Myhre, M. H. Ward and P. Galligan (Christchurch), are staying at the Grosvenor. In the Legislative Council yesterday, the Hon. G. J. Anderson, who has been absent through illness, took the oath and his seat. Mr A. D. Park, Secretary to the Treasury, who has been visiting Australia for several weeks, returned to Wellington, via Auckland, on Tuesday. After eight years’ ministry at St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Woolston, the Rev. L. McMaster has accepted a call to Onehunga. It was sustained by the Christchurch Presbytery yesterday. —Press Assn. The selection of Captain W. G. Gentry, New Zealand Defence Staff Corps, to proceed to England to attend a course at the School of Military Engineering at Chatham, has been approved by the Government. During the period of his training Captain Gentry will be attached to units of the Royal Engineers. Mr T. Forsyth, who had been chairman of the Wellington Education Board since 1918 and a member since 1916, representing the Wellington urban area, was defeated yesterday for membership of the Board, the voting being L. j. McDonald 159, J. J. Clark 144, T. Forsyth 74. Messrs McDonald and Clark were elected.—Press Association message from Wellington.
Mr G. E. 11. Kerry, manager for New Zealand for Messrs Carmichael and Company, Limited, of Auckland, passed through Timaru yesterday on his way to Dunedin and Invercargill. Mr Kerry who was for some years in the Sydney office of Messrs Carmichael and Company, Limited, arrived from Australia recently to take over the manngerslup of the company in New Zealand.
