HARRIERS
MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The fortnightly meeting of the Timaru Harrier Management Committee was held on Monday evening. Present, Messrs E. C. J. Foot (in the chair), C. Whitehouse, C. W. Cameron, E. C. Hetherington, A. Harper, F. King, G. Valantine, I. Bennett, C. F. Berry, A. C. Mitchell, M. M. Gliddon, I. Gillon, F. Shepherd, J. Chapman, and H. B. Dennison.
It was decided to hold the Junior Championship and senior team’s trial from West End park on Saturday, the junior race to start at 2.15 p.m. and the senior race at 2.45 p.m. The selecting of the course was left in the hands of the selection committee. The trail to be laid by G. Whitehouse and A. Harper.
A vote of thanks was passed to Mr E. C. Hetherington for his donation of a cup for local teams in the Temuka race. A similar vote was passed to the social committee for its excellent arrangement of the Temuka-Timaru race.
The Inter Club Relay from Waimate to Timaru on September 1 was discussed, and it was decided that it be a handicap event and that the teams comprise six runners each to cover approximately one-sixth of the distance. The start will be from the Waimate Post Office and the finish at the Grand Hotel corner. It was decided that the senior champion, R. Holmes, be presented with a gold medal in recognition of his excellent performance in the Orr Walker race.
