NEGLIGENT DRIVING
JURY RECOMMENDS LENIENCY. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, July 25. “We find that the accused was guilty of negligence, but we consider that the behaviour of the pillion rider -was very largely a contributing factor to the cause of the accident and, therefore, recommended that leniency be extended by the court,” was the verdict returned by the jury in the Supreme Court to-day in the case in which Stanley Keith Swan was charged with negligently driving a motor-cycle thereby causing the death of Edgar Wilfred London, who was the pillon rider on the motor-cycle ridden by Swan which collided with a motor-car on Ngaliauranga Gorge road on March 17. The Chief Justice said that he would give the jury’s recommendation careful consideration, and remanded Swan until Friday for sentence.
