REFEREE STRUCK
SPECTATOR BECOMES ANNOYED. WELLINGTON, July 24. In a Rugby match on Saturday a spectator, It is stated, became so annoyed that he struck the referee. The incident, which occurred during the interval, arose from remarks made from the sideline during the progress of the first spell. It is unc' rstood that after a warning had been issued, a request was made by the referee that the spectator in question be removed from the ground. At this the referee was struck, and a further warning from the referee resulted in another blow. The matter, it is stated, has been reported to official quarters with a view to further action being taken This is the second time this season that, a Rugby referee has been struck though in the previous one it is understood that a player was responsible.
