HUNTERS GO WELL
SCHOOLING AT WASHDYKE. Some of the best schooling work for years was witnessed at Washdyke yesterday morning. The course proper was thrown open, and most of the trainers took advantage of it. While the surface was a trifle greasy following the frost, the going otherwise was good, and there was some useful work on the flat. Parasang, the Southland hunter, was first to go over the fences, and he jumped well throughout. Membo and Peterette were associated over two rounds of the country. In the first circuit the mare rather outjumped Membo, but over the second round they finished togeth-- after giving an excellent display. Three hunters, Royal Buck, Night Club, and Witui went together. Royal Buck showed the way for the first lap. but at the end of a second round the trio were together. The school was an excellent one for hunters, all three taking their fences at good speed. Barrington, Andy and French Fleet jumped well over a round in company, and French Fleet went on alone to cover another circuit in good style. The Waimate owned hunters Wykemist and Waikari were sent once round. Wykemist ran off at the last obstacle, but was taken back and completed the course. Except for this one mistake both horses shaped well. Marco Polo and the Wingatui maiden Lammerlaw covered a circuit at a fast pace, both fencing nicely. The jumping all round was excellent, the hunters doing particularly well, and there should be some good racing in events of this class during the week.
