WRESTLING
TO-MORROW’S CONTEST MAMOS v. SHIKINA The professional wrestling contest to be held to-morrow night between Harry Mamos and Oki Shi kina should, judging on their previous close contest, provide followers of the sport with a thrilling and scientific bout. Both are ranked among the outstanding wrestlers competing in New Zealand. Mamos is well known to Timaruvians as a skilful matman and one who has thoroughly mastered the art of wrestling. The Greek is now displaying his best form, as was shown in his bout with Dr. Meyer at Dunedin. Shikina, : along with Dean Detton, is considered to be the most spectacular wrestler competing in New Zealand. The Japanese is very fast and is continually on the attack. Unlike many wrestlers, he does not play for or specialise in any particular hold, but relies on his aggressiveness and speed to gain success. The contest will be straight-out wrestling, not under ju jitsu rules, which governed the Christchurch contest. The Japanese is under no disadvantage in competing under what is called the American style of wrestling, as he more than held his own with those unpopular matmen Dr. Meyer and Ali Bey. Both contestants are of splendid physique, with Shikina having a slight advantage in height and weight. The following amateur bouts will take place as preliminaries to the main contest—Hobbs (Timaru) and Jameson (Temuka); Brookland (Timaru) and Davies (Temuka); Walton (Timaru), and Walker (Waimate). with an extra bout yet to be arranged.
