PAPER WINDOWS

Research workers in the Chinese University of Yenching say they believe that Chinese paper window's will soon be widely used in Western experiments under the direction of Professor William Baud, Chinese investigators have found that the highly bfeneficial ultra-violet rays in solar radiation penetrate the Chinese paper window to the extent of 40 per cent., whereas ordinary glass, it is stated, completely excludes them. Another advantage claimed for the paper window is that the sun’s rays are diffused in all parts of a room, but in the case of glass windows, only the section of the room directly within range of the band of rays is solarised. Tests are also being made with a view to prove that the paper window admits neat rays to a greater extent than does glass. Large sums have been spent in Europe and America in a search for some material which will admit ultra-violet rays to homes, schools, factories, and other buildings, but so far, the only material discovered is a specially treated glass which is expensive.
