A RARE BOWL
BROUGHT BY MAORIS DURING MIGRATION. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON. June 25. A rare carved Maori stone bowl excavated near Tauranga, Bay of Plenty 15 or 20 years ago, is to be put up for auction by a Wellington firm. It is one of a number of Maori curios, some of undoubted value, from the collection of the late Mr T. Chamberlain. The bowl is unique in that pottery was not one of the great arts of the Maori so far as is known. It is distinguished further by being carved and is believed according to Maori mythology, to be the original Maori light bowl which was used during the migration of the race to this country.
