TIMBER RESOURCES
CONSERVATION ADVOCATED. By Telegraph—Press Association NAPIER. June 25. The danger of New Zealand timber resources being used for paper pulp v.as pointed out at the annual meeting of the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society this morning by Mr W. A. Tod, and members endorsed the following motion moved by him: “That it be recommended to the incoming committee to inquire of the Government what policy it pursues in the restriction on the cutting and exporting of our timbers, also the sale of forest lands.” Mr Tod also recommended that the committee should discover whether any steps were being taken to plant areas in New Zealand with forest trees, and if not why? “I do not think it is right that this milling timber should go into paper pulp,” said Mr Tod. The quantity we have in this country is limited and fast disappearing.” The speaker said that New Zealand t. es and plants were among the most beautiful in the world and the society should encourage t’ planting of them.
