BACK VIEWS

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PICTURE Watch the average woman wielding a hand-glass in a millinery shop if you would learn how unfamiliar she is with her own back view. Her full face she knows well, her profile quite well, her full-length view quite well also, but her back view is a different matter. Sit behind any woman in a bus or at the theatre and judge for yourself whether she cares at all about the impression she makes upon those who only get a back view. When you are hatlcss the hair is, of course, all important If it is short, is it shaped well to the head, combed softly in place, and as well cared for as the hair which frames the face? If it is longish, is it curled or coiled naturally or tidily in place and free wrom untidy wisps which straggle at the nape of the neck? The nape of the neck can so easily be pretty, especially if head and neck are well shaped, but insufficient attention to detail, too infrequent cutting and trimming of hair, may well spoil the prettiest nape. If wearing a hat, be sure that this is scrupulously clean at the back. Hats—and particularly felts and those that come in contact with coat collars—are very apt to get rubbed and soiledlooking at the edge of the brim. Then collars must have scrupulous attention, too, whether they be coat collars or the easily laundered collars of summer frocks. See that the ldtter always look freshly laundered. Above all, do not nelect that most important of back views which you display when you wear a low-backed evening frock or a backless bathing suit. Your back should be smooth and clear-skinned, but it will not be if you do not give it daily attention. Buy yourself a back brush and use this daily in your bath. Friction with ordinary soap and water is all you need. This cures a sluggish skin in no time, and it is the sluggish skin that abounds with spots and blemishes. Finally, a rinsing friction with water to which a few drops of eau-de-Cologne or toilet ammonia have been added will tone up the skin wonderfully.
