WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
CAVE. At the monthly meeting of the Cave Women’s Institute there was a good attendance. A welcome was extended to two new members and to the visitors.Congratulations were expressed to the two new babies, Masters Hart and Howell. During the afternoon the members took the opportunity of bidding farewell to Miss Dorothy Kerr, who is leaving the district shortly to be married. Mrs Rich, on behalf of the Institute, made the presentation, the gift being a nut-bowl and a bouquet. Miss Kerr suitably responded. Musical items were given by Mr and Mrs Eagle, accompanied by Miss Scott. A competition was won by Mrs Sams and Miss Kerr. Competitions for the month resulted.—Scones: Miss Wifely 1. Mrs Fitzgerald and Mrs J. Little equal 2, Miss Weavers 3. Apples: Miss McPherson 1, Mrs W. A. Little 2, Miss Weavers 3. Slippers: Miss Wisely 1, Miss Weavers 2. Miss Raymond gave an interesting address on her travels. Afternoon tea was served. SEADOYVN. The June meeting of the Seadown Women’s Institute was held in the school, Mrs S. Cargo presiding over a good attendance of members. One new member was elected. It was decided not to send a delegate to the Conference at Wellington. An invitation to as many members as possible to attend the Temuka Institute's Birthday Party was accepted. The roll call was “A Cure for Chapped Hands,” which brought forth good remedies. A demonstration was given by Mrs Waite of “cake icing,’’ the actual proceedings being closely watched by those present. A vote of thanks was accorded the demonstrator. Competitions resui ted: —Specimen bloom, Mrs W. Smith 1. Mrs J. McCully 2. Best tailored patch, Mrs S. Cargo 1, Mrs R. Hewson 2. During the social half-hour Miss Greenall of Washdyke entertained the members with Tap Dancing and Rhythmic Dancing.
