QUESTION TO FINANCE MINISTER,
The question of the Unemployment Board’s surplus was referred to the Minister of Finance (Rt. Ron. J. G. Coates) by a representative of “The Timaru Herald” last night, with an inquiry as to whether there was any possibility of unemployment taxation being reduced this year. “Surely you are not averie to contributing something towards the help of your fellow-men?” said fir Coates, v.-ith traces of a smile. “No, I am certainly not, but unfortunately there are many who are,” was the reply. Mr Coates said it was htrd to say how the Unemployment Btard would fare this winter. No one pould possibly forecast the number if workers who would require relief.
