BOARD OF DIRECTORS BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES Following are biographical sketches of the seven members appointed to the Board of tne Reserve Bank. Mr J. G. Duncan is director and manager of Levin and Co., Ltd., and a member of the New Zealand directorate of the Australian Mutual Provident Society. Before joining Levin and Co. Mr Duncan was for seven years with the Bank of Australasia, and for the last three years of that term he was relieving officer on the West Coast. Incidentally, at one time that position was filled by Mr W. L. Ward, who was recently appointed deputy-governor of the Reserve Bank. Mr Duncan is a past president of the Wellington Racing Club. Mr D. A. Ewen is managing director of Sargood, Son and Ewen, Ltd., warehousemen, manufacturers and importers. He is president of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and the Wellington Symphony Orchestra, a former member of the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, a former member of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, a former chairman of the New Zealand Warehousemen's Association, a former president of the Wellington Rotary Club, a member of the Lower Hutt Borough Council from 1923 to 1924, and a former chairman of the Moera Workers’ Settlement Committee. Mr R. J. Hudson is chairman of directors of Cadbury. Fry, Hudson, Ltd., a director of the Trustees’ Executors and Agency Co. of New Zealand, Ltd., a director of Distributors, Ltd., a director of the Southern Cross Assurance Co., Ltd., chairman of directors of New Queen's Theatre, Ltd., chairman of directors of the King Edward Theatre Co., Ltd., chairman of directors of the Dunedin-Wanganui Shipping Co., Ltd., and a director of the National Engineering and Electrical Co., Ltd. Farming Representatives. Mr James Begg. a sheep farmer, owns the Bendigo station at Cromwell. He is a former president of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association, a former president of the Otago Farmers’ Union, president of the Otago Sheep Owners’ Union, a former member of the Clutha County Council, chairman of the Dunedin Repatriation Board, a member of the Taxation Commission of 1922, director and founder of the South Otago Freezing Co., Ltd., a deputy-chairman of the Westport Coal Co., a director of the Perpetual Trustees’ Estate and Agency Co., a director of the Farmers’ Institute, Wellington, a director of W Gregg and Co.. Ltd., and a director of the “Otago Daily Times and Witness” Newspaper Co. Mr E. J. Herrick is a prominent Hawke’s Bay runholder. He is a member of the Napier Harbour Board, and deputy-chairman of the Hawke's Bay Electric Power Board. He is associated with several Hawke’s Bay stock and station firms and is a director of Williams and Kettle, and also of Hoadley, Son, and Stewart. He is chairman of directors of Ellison and Duncan, local director of the Guardian Trust, and a member of the Hawke's Bay Sheep Owners’ Federation. Industries and Commerce. Mr E. Anderson is managing director of Henderson and Macfarlane, Ltd., shipping agents, managing director of S. R. Maxwell and Co., Ltd., a director of the New Zealand Publishing Co., Ltd., a director of Bycrofts. Ltd., deputy-president of the Auckland Savings Bank, a former president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, and the owner of the Crossland sheep station. Mr Norton Francis. C.M.G., J.P., is managing-director of Pyne, Gould, Guinness. Ltd., stock and station agents. He is also chairman of directors of Mason, Struthers, and Co., Ltd., a director of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Co.. Ltd.. Vice-Consul for the Netherlands, a former president of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Rural Intermediate Credit Board, a member of the Massey Agricultural College Council, president of the Canterbury branch of the Overseas League, vice-president of the Christchurch Citizens’ Association in 1924. and a foundation member o f the Christchurch Rotary Club. He was Mayor of Waimate from 1908 to 1912, and from 1915 to 1916. a member of the Timaru Harbour Board, and member of the South Canterbury Hospital Board, and other public bodies. Mr Norton Francis served in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force from 1914 to 1919, attaining the rank of major.
