TRADE FOR TRADE
AUSTRALIA’S BARTERING POLICY. United Press Association—By Electric Tel egraph—Copyrl gh t LOS ANGELES. May 20. Speaking at a luncheon, as the guest of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr Stanley Bruce vigorously expounded Australia’s policy of bartering trade for trade. Referring to the unbalanced trade between Australia and America, he said it was obviously impossible to continue the policies that followed the failure of the London Economic Conference. The only hope in the future was for the nations to arrange reciprocal trade treaties. “I am going to Washington to meet the heads of the Administration, and I believe it is possible to do something to Improve our trade relations. For years you have been selling large quantities of goods to Australia, and buying the smallest quantities from us. We could sell you many things you need, and we want to continue buying from you, but trade cannot continue as onesided as it is now.”
