CLEARING OUT “OLD GANGS ”
REASON FOR BULGAR COUP
INTERESTING NEWSPAPER COMMENT United Press Association—By Electric Tel egrapli—Copy r igli t (Received May 21, 7.35 p.m.) LONDON. May 21. “The Times” says: “The Bulgarian coup-d’etat involves the suppression of the Macedonian rebels in the mountains of south-western Bulgaria. That the makers of the coup-d’etat have thus far avoided bloodshed,’ must be set down to their credit, but it is obvious that the risks of the course they followed are bound to arouse the anxiety of their friends in Bulgaria. “The Daily Mail,” under the heading “Europe Doing Well,” congratulates Bulgaria and Latvia on clearing out the old gangs. “The Daily Mail” adds: "People are sick of the spectacle of the many-tongued demagogy, trying to govern their countries.”
ATTITUDE OF NEIGHBOURS
KING BORIS INVOLVED IN GRAVE RISKS.^ • United Press Association —By Electric Celegraph—Copyright “ (Received May 21, 7.0 p.m.) LONDON, May 21. The Belgrade correspondent of “The Daily Mail” says: “Jugo-Slavia clearly recognises that King Boris's reason for seizing the dictatorial power, was to liquidate the impossible stalemate between the two factions. King Boris runs a terrible risk from the present bold course, which though directed , towards the ending of the quarter of a century’s enmity between Bulgaria and Jugo-Slavia, sets him at odds with the ruthless Macedonian comitadjis, who will stop at nothing to prevent the signing of a Bulgar-Jugo Slavian pact, and will crush King Boris, unless he crushes them. Already the Bulgars and Macedonians under the leadership of Mihailoff are fiercely fighting at Petritch, which it is believed to be Macedonia’s secret arsenal.
