THREE MEN SENTENCED. By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, May 21. Four men, including a naval petty officer, appeared in the Police Court to-day as a sequel to a disturbance in the city on Saturday night. It was stated that a large crowd gathered when the police were trying to make arrests and was very hostile. Joseph Henry Hayes, aged 24, a labourer, for obstructing the police, was sentenced to 14 days’ gaol; George Edward Porter, aged 24, an engineer and a labourer, for assaulting a constable, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment; James McEwan, aged 36, a labourer, for inciting the crowd to disorder, was aw’arded 21 days’ gaol, and Daniel Charles Pyke, aged 24, a stoker, was ordered to be handed over to the naval authorities.
