POSTAL SERVANT ADMITTED TO PROBATION. By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKI.AND May 21. Robert James Gillies, aged 37, a postal clerk, of Ngaruawhia, was admitted to two years’ probation by Mr Justice Ostler, in the Supreme Court, to-day, when he appeared for sentence on two charges of theft. It was stated that the prisoner had an unblemished record until the thefts, which involved £2l. Counsel said that the prisoner had difficulty in carrying on his household, and the strain had effected his mental stability. His Honour said he wo take into account the comparative smallness of the theft, and the fact that the prisoner’s stability had been affected by war service.
