THIEF DISTURBED
A ROTORUA INCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association ROTORUA, May 21. An unsuccessful attempt was made early this morning to rifle the safe of the Rotorua Bus .Company in Fenton Street. At 1.30 the attention of the night watchman was attracted by a dull boom and on opening the office door he was just in time to see a man making his escape through the garage which adjoins the office. The intruder rushed through the garage breaking a window at the rear and escaping over the fences of adjoining houses. The night watchman gave the alarm but the intruder had too long a start ail I made good his escape. Access to the premises was obtained by forcing the main garage doors and breaking a window of th: office. A charge of gelignite was rammed into the keyhole of the safe and muffled with a number of old but the first shot was unsuccessful in breaking the lock. The thief was in the act of laying a second charge when he was interrupted. In the safe was a sum of approximately £5.
