SATURDAY’S RUNS TIMARU CLUB The Timaru Harrier Club held its run on Saturday from the Sailors’ Best, as the guests of Mr and Mrs Woodward. The runners were joined by the members of the Presbyterian Club at the Bay, and the run was taken over the course selected for the Orr Walker Cup race. On the run a good pace was set by the fast pack, the runners finishing in the following orderG. Powell < Presbyterian) 1, R. Holmes (Timaru) 2, H. Ward (Timaru) 3, R. Barlow (Presbyterian) 4, C. Mathieson (Presbyterian) 5, W. Holmes (Timaru) 6, A. McArthur (Timaru) 7, T. Shivas (Timaru) 8. At the close of the run, the Timaru Club were hospitably entertained to afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs Woodward. Mr A. McArthur, club captain, thanked the hosts for their hospitality. The club will hold its seven-mile handicap race from Caroline Bay next Saturday. WEST END CLUB. Members of the West End Harrier Club, who were the guests of Mr and Mrs E. Ramsay, Regent Street, followed a trail from there to School Park, where they were joined by members of the Methodist Club. Both clubs then set out on a training jog.. The runners were later entertained at afternoon tea, B. Gillon thanking the host and hostess on behalf of the clubs. PRESBYTERIAN CLUB. The Presbyterian Club held its fifth run of the season from the residence of Senior-Sergeant I. H. Mathieson, Heaton Street, in good weather. Fifteen runners, in two packs competed. The packs were joined by Timaru at the Sailors’ Rest, and the Anglican at Smithfleld. From Spring’s property the runners went slowly over the new Orr Walker Cup course, which all 'declared was a big improvement on the old one. After the run, Mr and Mrs Mathieson provided afternoon tea. Mr I. C. Mitchell thanked them on behalf of the club. ANGLICAN CLUB. Members of the ' Timaru Anglican Harrier Club were the guests of the All Saints Social Committee for their weekly run on Saturday. A field of 16 runners left in two packs to run over the new Orr course, the placings were:— Fast Pack—G. R. Valentine 1, G. Simpson 2. Slow Pack—W. Meechin 1, D. Midgeley 2. After the run, the club captain. G. R. Valentine, thanked the women supporters on behalf of the club for providing afternoon tea. Mrs Southgate suitably replied and expressed the hope that they would be again able to entertain the runners this season.
