Tozer 0 1 ABUSE OF WATER CHANNELS. For some time past there have been frequent blockages of both water channels in King Street and during Saturday evening the west side channel again became blocked at the Stock Road corner, diverting the water across the street. Floating on the water at the blockage were about fifty tobacco tins, numerous match boxes, rotten fruit, straw and an abundance of paper, denoting the use to which the channel is put by a section of the community, causing a great deal of unnecessary inconvenience to Borough Council employees. MEASLES PREVALENT. Owing to the prevalence of measles in the district, the primary department of the Temuka District High School will not reopen until to-day-week. The secondary department and the Watt Lowry School, however, will reopen to-morrow. MOTORING MISHAP. While a motor-car was being driven s.uth along King Street late on Saturday night, one of the front wheels came adrift and the axle was slightlybent by coming into contact with the ground. It was found necessary to abandon the car for the remainder of the night.

PERSONAL. Miss L. Hope left yesterday on her return to Greymouth. A. Horgan, who was injured during the Temuka-Zingari Rugby game on ADD TEMUKA—ONE. Saturday, suffered a fractured jaw and slight concussion. His condition is satisfactory. THE WEATHER, Six degrees of frost were registered at Temuka on Saturday and a beautifully fine day followed. Sunday was also mild and warm. BASKETBALL. A meeting of the management committee of the Temuka and District Basketball* Association was presided over by Mr H. F. Christie. The South Canterbury Association advised that it had been decided to hold the King’s Birthday tournament at Timaru. It was agreed to circularise all clubs and to advise the centre that a number of the members of the Temuia Referees’ Association would be willing to act if needed on that day. A letter from the Geraldine Club advising that it was inconvenient for the club to play fixtures at Temuka before 2.30 p.m. was referred to the ground stewards for action. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote forwarding permission for the. club to conduct an art union. On behalf of the social committee, Miss M. Hanifin reported that all arrangements for the Association’s annual ball were well in hand. Appointed by the Association to investigate the possibility of insuring all players against accident. Miss Mcßean reported that, although she had interviewed all the insurance companies, none of them would undertake to issue such a comprehensive policy. She suggested, however, that the Association inaugurate its own insurance scheme and that delegates be asked to obtain opinions on the question from their clubs. Miss Mcßean indicated that a limit of £2O would be placed on the fund, and that it would be used onlv for doctors’ expenses. The president announced that Mis Pani Torepe, president of the Arowhenua Maori Women’s Sports Ohio, had given a silver cup for annual competition between the winners and runners-up in the grade in which the Arowhenua team is competing. One of the conditions of the competition was that the games were to be played on the Arowhenua Club ground and that at the conclusion of the match the cup be presented to the winners by the donor. It was decided to write a letter of thanks to Mrs Torepe.
