USE OF ASTRINGENTS
Properly used, astringents refine the texture of the skin, reduce large pores, overcome redness of the face, make the skin smooth, firm and velvety, and remove lines and wrinkles. In short, they are excellent rejuvenating agents, drawing together the tissues of the skin and enlivening the cells in the skin of the neck and face. Popular astringents include toilet vinegar, which helps to overcome redness of the face, lemon juice, alcohol, witch hazel, tincture of benzoin, some vegetable herbs and vegetable essences. White of egg was favoured by an older generation, but frequent use of it is inadvisable.
