HYGIENE OF THE SKIN
SPOTS AND “MOTH PATCHES" Many girls who have poor complexions double their efforts with powderpuff and vanishing cream, and instead of curing make matters worse. Take spots, for instance. They need clean, hygienic treatment—not the constant-ly-used powder-puff which is never washed. If the cause of the pimple is not deep-seated local treatment will often help to cure them. An excellent lotion is: Milk of sulphur, one drachm, tincture of camphor, one drachm, and rosewater, 4oz. This may be applied several times a day. Green salads and ripe fruit should be eaten, but sweets must be avoided. On rising and at bedtime drink plenty of cold water. “Moth patches” are due to a deposit of pigment in the true skin. A good lotion for them is a mixture of loz. of lemon juice and 2oz. of bay rum, which may be dabbed on the spots night and morning. Scars left by face blemishes sometimes remain for a long time. Gentle massage with cold cream will generally bring about an improvement, but patience will be needed. Do not use cold cream or the like before exposing your face to wind or sun—but afterward.
