BRITISH TITLE
MRS HOLM WINS WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP.
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Coovripht LONDON, May 17. In the British Women’s Golf Championship final, Mrs A. Holm defeated Miss Barton, 6 up and 5. Miss Barton was one up at the end of the morning round. Mrs Holm deserved her success. She was once three down, but retained an almost perfect style, and fought to overwhelm one of the most gallant little girls, in one of the most interesting championships since the war. Mrs Holm is the first Scot to win the championship since Miss Campbell, in 1911. The gallery spontaneously cheered Miss Barton. Mrs Holm said that Pam played finely, and undoubtedly she would be the title-winner soon, Mrs Andrew Holm, who is 27 years of age, is tall and slender. Her proficiency in the game, derived from experience on the wind-swept coasts of Scotland, enabled her to average fours in the windy afternoon. Miss Barton’s morning lead was due to her remarkable putting. She took only 27 putts in the round.
