THE WEATHER

Dominion Meteorologist: General Situation —Since yesterday a cyclone has developed off the New South Wales coast while the depression crossing New Zealand yesterday has filled up. Winds —North-east to north light to moderate, but freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong winds between north-east and south-east, seas rough in the southern portion, elsewhere moderate to rather rough. Weather —Mainly cloudy, mild, misty, or, in places, foggy; scattered rain likely in the western and far northern districts, more general falls after 24 to 36 hours.

Conditions in Timaru. The weather was fine in Timaru on Saturday morning, and after mid-day the sun shone brightly. Late in the afternoon, however, a heavy nor’west wind made conditions unpleasant, the wind changing towards nightfall to bring a cold snap. Rain was experienced during the night, but there was not sufficient to register one point on the gauge at Timaru Park. Although overcast conditions were experienced yesterday, and rain threatened at about 1 p.m., the day remained fine.
