INCENSE MONOPOLY
POPE PUTS END TO SWEATED LABOUR VATICAN CITY, April 6. The Pope has sanctioned an arrangement to end sweated labour in connection with the gathering of shrubs for incense. The trade mark of the Vatican will henceforth be on every packet of incense made from shrubs from Italian Somaliland. The Pope has obtained assurances from Signor Mussolini that the incense gatherers in future will be humanely treated, and that the incense will be shipped direct instead of being resold in Aden by Indian traders. In return for these assurances all Catholic priests are requested to burn Vatican incense, giving Somaliland a monopoly.
