The noted aviator, Flight-Comman-der Renato Donati, flying a specially constructed biplane, reached a record altitude of 49,813 ft. He landed in a state of exhaustion. The instruments registered 68 deg. below zero. In descending Donati fainted, but he quickly recovered and resumed control.
