INCREASED DEATH ROLL
DRAMATIC SCENES AT HAKODATE
United Press Association—By Electric Tel egraph—Copyright (Received March 27, 10.50 p.m.) TOKYO, March 27. The Hakodate death roll approaches 2000 as fresh bodies* are continually being recovered from the ruins and the sea. A dramatic solemn spectacle, of priests chanting and incense burning at an outdoor altar heaped up with human ashes, was provided, the scenes resembling the 1923 earthquake. Meanwhile, reconstruction has begun amid the numberless temporary shelters. The various relief funds amount to approximately 6000 yen.
