BEACH TRAGEDY
SURVIVOR’S STORY CORONER’S VERDICT By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, March 27. The inquest into the deaths of Robert Birt Brown (51) of Northcote and his son Robert Douglas Brown (14) who were drowned at Orewa Beach on Saturday afternoon was concluded to-day. B Evidence was given by Arthur K. - nson who was bathing with the Browns. "Douglas Brown swam out furthest about 50 yards from the beach,” witness stated. “We had been in the water about five minutes only when I noticed that the boy was in difficulties.” . . Witness said that he knew the boy, who was being swept out by the tide, was only a poor swimmer and was out of his depth. Witness said he swam after the boy and held him up for a while. Owing to the boy struggling witness became exhausted and called to Brown to help. When Brown reached them they were a long way from the beach and Brown was nearly exhausted. The three swimmers were washed apart and nothing more could be done. Witness said he had to be assisted ashore.
A verdict of accidental drowning was returned.
