DAIRY INDUSTRY
HELP FOR HOLDERS OF CROWN LANDS
COMMISSIONERS CONFER By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, March 27. The plight of Crown tenants engaged in dairy farming was discussed by the Commissioners of Crown Lands and officers of the Department of Lands and Survey at a conference held in Wellington on Monday and to-day. The conference was opened by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, and after his retirement the deliberations were presided over by the Under-Secretary of Lands. The conference will submit a report to the Minister. Twelve Commissioners of Crown Lands from all parts of the Dominion attended the conference. In view of the existing state of the dairy market, consideration was git en to the question of what concessions should be given to dairy farmers who are tenants or mortgagors of the Crown in order to assist them to carry on for the remainder of the present season and next year. In sheep terming districts the Department assisted its tenants during the leanest years by means of a scheme of partial remissions of interest and rent running up to 50 per cent. In view of the con J siderable help this proved to woolgrowers and the way many of those assisted have shown their gratitude by the prompt payment of the balance, it is probable that some similar scheme will be recommended in the case of dairy farmers.
