PLIGHT OF DAIRY INDUSTRY
STABILISATION PLANS IN AUSTRALIA. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 16, 10.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 16. Definite action has been taken during the week in the direction of stabilising the dairy industry of Australia, as a result of the Commonwealth and State legislation and the organisation being registered as the Commonwealth Dairy Produce Equalisation Company, Limited, which is already at work aiming at bringing the equalisation agreement into operation at the earliest moment. The form of the agreement between the Company and the manufacturers of butter and cheese has been approved, also the memorandum of the Articles of Association. The provisional directors, with Mr J. Purcell, of Queensland, as chairman, have been appointed. Satisfactory arrangements have been made for the necessary finance, and, as soon as the agreements have been signed in the various States, the scheme will function. There will be a levy of 4d per cwt on the total production of butter, and 2d on cheese, half of which will be used for administrative purposes, and the balance for the creation of a reserve fund.
