BRITISH EMPIRE GAMES
Present indications are that the Australian team for the British Empire Games will not include any women. A considerale amount of money is necessary to send a team, and unless a great deal of monetary assistance is forthcoming from the public the team of men will be on a very small scale. Another reason why women will probably be excluded is that the women broke away from the men’s association about two years ago, and as they now manage their own affairs they are not affiliated with the Empire Games Association. The women swimmers are in a different category, however, for they are affiliated, and are eligible for selection.
A move will probably be made shortly to admit the Women’s Athletic Association to affiliation, but should the move be successful it will be too late for any women athletes to be included in the team, because the selectors will have met and chosen the team. It has been suggested that if any women are considered sufficiently versatile they should be invited to join the team.
