MINERVAL TRIUMPHS IN CUP. By Telcgraph-Press Association AUCKLAND. December 26. The Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting opened at Ellerslie to-dav in fine but overcast weather. The attendance was 27,000, an increase of 1500 compared with last year. The totalisators handled £69,215 against £62 522, an increase of £6693. The track was in excellent order. Passing the stand King s Knave and Minerval were together in front followed by Speedmint, King’s March and Carfex. Minerval had command at the distance, staying on to win by two lengths from King's Knave, who beat Speedmint by a head. Nightly was a close fourth. Time, 3.14. GRAFTON HURDLES. Thespis and Mia Stella led at the start with Wee Pat in attendance, Grant’s Opal falling at the first fence. Passing the stand Wee Pat led from Thespis and Billy Boy, followed by Solanio, Mia Stella and Zane Grey. Billy Boy was leading at the distance from Thespis and Zane Grey, but Wee Pat came up from fifth to win from Billy Boy in a great finish by a head, with two and a half lengths between second and third.
